Schools And Colleges To Be Closed in Chennai Till November 22

On November 18, Chennai district collector, E Sundaravalli has announced that schools and colleges in district would remain closed till November 22. It will reopen on November 23. Schools and colleges in 11 districts including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Trichy and Perambalur have been declared closed till situation improves. All upcoming exams have been postponed. According to the reports, heavy rain covered several parts of the city and borders. The city's major waterways, including the Adyar river, the Cooum river and and Buckingham canal, are overflowing.


On November 15, the city of Chennai received 85.5 milimetre of rain.The incessant rain brought the city to a halt for hours with roads being waterlogged and subways submerged. On November 16, the public works department released 500 cusecs (cubic feet per second) of water from the Chembarambakkam reservoir in Kancheepuram. In 2014, the Kashmir region suffered disastrous floods across many of its districts. According to the reports, the Home Ministry of India, 2,600 villages were reported to be affected in Jammu and Kashmir, out of which 390 villages in Kashmir were completely submerged.
