UPSC exams registration to be conducted 100 per cent online

In a bid to ensure transparency, registration for various competitive examination held by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has been made 100 per cent online, Rajya Sabha was informed on February 26. According to PTI, efforts were also being made to take online registration for Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to 100 per cent from the present 95 per cent, Minister of State for Personnel and Public Grievances Jitendra Singh said during Question Hour. Replying to supplementaries, he said that the government had initiated a series of reforms during the past 18-20 months regarding online registrations for competitive examinations. He said there has not been a single grievance in connection with online registrations for UPSC, while Deputy Commissioners have been directed to take adequate measures in case of complaints from candidates to check any difficulty faced by candidates registering for SSC exams.

"Online registration procedure has been initiated to bring in transparency in the process of selection, to provide level playing field to all candidates and to simplify the procedure," Singh said. Earlier Bhupinder Singh (BJD) questioned the efficacy of the system, saying that when the internet system did not work properly in cities like Delhi, how would it function in remote areas. He also urged the government to solve the problems of candidates residing in far-flung areas. Singh stressed that the government has initiated steps to augment the system and said there was no move to do away with the online registration system.
