counseling process for IITs and NIITs

As the joint counseling process for admission to various Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NIITs) and other government institutes have come to an end, it has been noticed that many seats are still lying vacant in various colleges.

List of vacant seats: As per reports, 73 vacancies are left in the IITs, including 38 seats in IIT (Banaras Hindu University). Further, in NIT-Surat, there are still 115 seats, while Jalandhar campus has 110 vacant seats. Meanwhile, most of the first generation IITs -- Bombay, Madras, Kharagpur, Delhi and Kanpur-- are not left with any vacancy. While speaking on this issue, an HRD source said that most of the vacancies were part of the state quota. Moreover, the Indian School of Mines (ISM)-Dhanbad, which recently came into the prestigious IIT family, is left with only 23 vacancies out of total 912 seats.

There are chances of government conducting a round of spot counseling to fill the left vacancies in various colleges. Also, HRD minister Prakash Javadekar in a recent report said that the government has formed the High Education Financial Agency (HEFA) to upgrade the infrastructure.
