Odisha government cancels class X board exam for 2021

Following protest by some students demanding cancellation of class-x board exam for 2021, Odisha government on Wednesday announced to cancel the examination. The class X examination to be conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) was scheduled to be held on May 3. "In view of the Covid-19 situation the state government decided to cancel the class X board exam for 2021. Evaluation of students will be done as per the provisions of the board. Those students who will not be happy with the marks may appear for the exam later when Covid-19 situation improves," said school and mass education minister Samir Ranjan Dash.

On Tuesday a number of students staged protest in front of CM Naveen Patnaik's residence Naveen Niwas demanding cancellation of the board exam. The state government also cancelled class X exam to be conducted by Odisha State Board of Madrasa Education scheduled to be held on May 19.

Due to upsurge in Covid-19 cases, national school boards like CBSE and ICSE and several state boards have already cancelled the class X board exams. However, the government has kept the class XII board exam postponed and the decision in this regard will be taken after reviewing the Covid-19 situation in June first week.
